In July 2008, GRTgaz, 100% subsidiary of GDF Suez holding, entrusted the turn-key construction of two new natural gas compression stations in the locations of Fontenay-Mauvoisin (Yvelines) and Saint-Avit (Drôme).
The stations of Fontenay-Mauvoisin and Saint-Avit each have two 11MW compressors with electric engines. This new method of generation contributes to the reduction of the greenhouse effect gas emissions, specifically CO2 and Nitrogen Oxide (NOx).
The compression stations are located at regular intervals (every 120-150 km) above the gas pipelines to compensate the loss of pressure derived from the gas movement through the pipelines. They allow the use of the gas transport networks in the best technical and economic conditions.
