In 2015 we initiated the TERRA project - "NEW CONCEPT OF SOLAR TOWER PLANT WITH OPEN RECEIVER" with file number ITC-20151145 and a budget of 2.327.818,00 €.
The main objective is the design and development of a new generation of central receiver solar plant that will be more competitive, more efficient and more stable. The plant will be able to obtain electricity through a combined cycle based on the development of a solar thermal tower with open receiver, where the air is heated and used as a heat transfer fluid.
With this new plant design, we will obtain much higher temperatures than in existing plants, thus allowing a gas turbine to be used, since these are more efficient at such temperatures. In addition, we are studying and redesigning all the component elements of the plant and are overcoming the current limitations of solar thermal tower technology to achieve a new concept of solar thermal central receiver plant.
The companies working with us are: INGENIERÍA Y DISEÑO EUROPEO, S.A. and CONCENTRATING SOLAR POWER SERVICES ESPAÑA, S.L
To achieve the scientific goals of the project we are also able to count on the participation of major research centers such as the TEKNIKER Foundation, ITMA Foundation and the University of Oviedo.
This project has been funded by CDTI through the ERDF Interconecta 2015 funding program and co-financed with European Union Structural Funds. It also has the support of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
