Since December 2015, INGENIERÍA DE MANUTENCIÓN ASTURIANA, S.A. has been carrying out a project entitled “New water treatment system based on direct osmosis”, which is financed by the program for Innovative Projects – Innova IDEPA and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER).
This project, that started in 2015, intends to develop a pilot-plant using the Direct Osmosis technology (OD), which will allow the filtering of a feeding solution in order to obtain, on one hand, purified water and, on the other hand, a concentrated feeding solution.
This OD process offers a wide range of advantages: it does not require any external hydraulic pressure; it produces an almost total rejection to a wide range of polluters and also less membrane contamination. This way, a whole new path is opened in the development of water treatment systems, as a substitute or as a complement to the inverse osmosis process. Direct Osmosis (OD) is a “green” technology, capable of solving many of the problems usually associated with water filtering and recycling procedures.
